Biochemical engineering and enviornmental biotechnology focusing on bioremediation and phytoremediation technologies for the restoration of contaminated sites; protection and restoration of the marine environment (oil spills and marine litter); novel oxygenation systems for ecosystem resoration and wastewater treatment; and mathematical modelling of environmental processes. Recent emphasis on fragmentation, deterioration and biodegradation of C-C backbone plastics and microplastics, in the marine environment and in agricultural soils.
