The focus of the work lies on exploiting the potential of optical and spectroscopic techniques for innovative bioanalytical approaches. On one side, plasmonic effects on molecular and chemically synthesized metallic hybrid nanostructures are studied, from basic scientific investigations to the development of bioanalytical and lab-on-a-chip systems. On the other hand, imaging and spectroscopic methods are developed in order to characterize and manipulate particles in microfluidic setups, with applications e.g.in cytometry or microplastic identification.
