Juan graduated from the University of Malta in 2011 with a BSc (Hons) in Biology and Chemistry. In 2013, he obtained an MSc in Biology. Juan is a senior lecturer at the Institute of Applied Sciences at MCAST and delivers units related with understanding the anthropogenic activities on the natural environment. A recurring topic in his research endeavours. Juan is currently leading IMPACT (Identifying Microplastic Hotspots in the Maltese Waters, GA: PRD002), a project which aims to identify microplastic hotspots around the Maltese islands through a collaborative approach.

PRIORITY stands for ‘Plastics monitoRIng detectiOn RemedIaTion recoverY’. PRIORITY is a science and technology research network focused on developing, implementing, and consolidating strategies to tackle the global challenges of micro- and nanoplastics in the environment.
